To make the sauce put finely chopped garlic into warm olive oil. Add pelati tomatoes, sugar, Vegeta and simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes.
When almost done stir in basil and brandy, and simmer for another 2 minutes.
Combine flour and pepper on a plate. Roll cleaned and dried sardines in flour and fry in heated oil on both sides for about 2 minutes.
Place fried sardines on paper towel.
Serve topped with tomato sauce.
Tomato sauce can be prepared a day earlier and refrigerated.
